What is this Course All About?

Teens don’t have to feel alone or unequipped to journey through the often daunting period of adolescence—the same goes for their parents or guardians! The course has three separate but related topics—one for each week. The first week is focused on learning more about oneself and your loved one and creating your ideal self; it provides teens and parents with the opportunity, through discussion and guided activities, to learn more about their own and each other’s strengths and interests. The second week is a discussion of how technology and social media impact relationships and how to communicate effectively; it includes communication tips and handouts as well as time to practice communication skills. The third week wraps up with tips on how to de-stress for success, grounded in mindfulness practices.

Who Can Benefit from Participating in this Course

This course is for teens between 11–17 years old and their parents/guardians who could benefit from having some quality time, learning about how to communicate more effectively with each other (and in general with others), learning more about themselves and each other, and gaining some helpful skills to manage stress and navigate adolescence—so essentially, any parents and teens who have a pulse and can breathe! Participants will have an opportunity to engage in interactive activities and discussion in each session to share their experiences, opinions, and practice some of the skills introduced in the course.
